I can't speak right now; I'm terribly busy. - No puedo hablar ahora mismo; estoy muy ocupado.

What's it like?

"What's it like?" es una pregunta muy común que puede prestar alguna confusión debido a la palabra "like". En realidad no tiene nada que ver con el verbo "like" (el verbo aquí es "to be"). Se usa para decir "¿qué tal?" o "¿cómo es?" cuando preguntamos sobre algo.

¿Cómo está el tráfico en el centro de la ciudad?	What's the traffic like in the city centre?
¿Qué tiempo hace donde estás?	What's the weather like where you are?
¿Cúal es la situación en Oriente medio en este momento?	What's the situation in the Middle East like at the moment?
¿Qué tal tu libro?	What's your book like?
¿Cuáles son las perspectivas en tu trabajo nuevo?	What are the prospects like in your new job?

Por cierto, cuando contestamos a este tipo de pregunta nunca empleamos "like". Aqui tienes algunos ejemplos en el pasado.

Confusing Vocab: Chips/Crisps/French Fries

Chips en inglés británico son patatas fritas, cortadas en forma alargada y servidas calientes. En Estados Unidos las suelen llamar (French) fries.

En inglés americano, chips se usa para las patatas fritas cortadas en rodajas muy finitas y servidas frías o embolsadas comercialmente, cuyo nombre en inglés británico es crisps.


IN CONCLUSION:
Thin slices (rodajas) of potato that are fried and sold in bags:

U.S. = potato chips
U.K. = crisps

For fresh cut and fried potatos, sold with hamburgers:

U.S. = French fries
U.K. = chips (sold with fried fish!)
